As we approach the fifth month of quarantine, I can only imagine how most of our rooms look like now compared to how it looked five months ago. It may be a mess now, and you may have said to yourself “Eh, ayusin ko nalang yan pag di na ako tinatamad,” but honestly, you’re not alone. However, there are numerous benefits to a clean and organized room! So, get on your feet and follow these tips on how to declutter your room!

1. Start with your bed!

Your bed serves only one purpose, that being a place of relaxation, so, lower the number of things on your bed. Once you clear your bed of unnecessary objects, you may utilize the space on your bed to sort and organize the clutter you are about to relocate.

2. Compile and Divide.

Gather all your clutter and sort them into these four categories: Store, Move, Throw, or Donate. Items such as toys, clothes, and books may either be stored or donated depending if you still need them. Items that will fall into the Move category are items that are out-of-place or items that need to be relocated to another spot in your room. Relocating some elements in your room has been proven to improve one’s effectiveness since your sense of newness will help you be more engaged. Used or unnecessary items may be thrown away if they no longer serve their purpose.

3. Systematic Order and Motivating Yourself!

It’s important to not overwhelm yourself when you start to declutter, so I suggest focusing on finishing one category before moving on to the next category. Always keep in mind that it is you who will be benefiting from all your hard work so you won’t lose motivation.

4. Clean, clean, clean!

It is very important that one must maintain the cleanliness of their room. So, I suggest you get a rag, some cleaning agents, and a pair of gloves for this next step. Start with all the objects that you touch often such as door handles, tables, chairs, light switches, and more. Next, you may start cleaning your bed frame, your shoe rack, and the other storage units in your room.

Now that you have done all these 4 tips, stand in one of the corners of your room and revel in the cleanliness and organization of your room due to your hard work! Appreciating your hard work is a great feeling, especially when you do yourself a favor. Remember to always keep your safe space clean and orderly, and don’t let it reach the point where your room becomes a fantasy world for mice or other pests. Yuck!
