Quarantine

Definition: It means isolating a person who was in close contact with a COVID positive to prevent the spread of disease.

Sentence: A person who is in quarantine should stay home for 14 consecutive days while they monitor their temperature, maintain good health and watch out for any COVID-related symptoms.


Lockdown

Definition: It is a security or emergency measure where people are temporarily prevented from entering or leaving a restricted area during a threat or danger such as COVID-19.

Sentence: Last March, the government implemented a strict lockdown in Metro Manila and nearby provinces when they mandated the Enhanced Community Quarantine or ECQ.


Social Distancing

Definition: It is keeping a safe distance (ideally six feet) between you and other people close by to prevent the spread of the virus.

Sentence: Nowadays, social distancing is being practiced by many different individuals around the world to ensure a safe distance from one another.


Online Learning

Definition: It refers to learning through various digital platforms; also known as distance learning.

Sentence: Students today are engaging in online learning because they are unable to attend school physically due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.


Pandemic

Definition: It is a disease that spreads over a certain country or countries, or the whole world.

Sentence: The Coronavirus disease is one of the worst pandemics seen in history.


MECQ

Definition: MECQ, or Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine, is a period when people are required to follow strict protocols when going outside.

Sentence: For two weeks, the NCR was under MECQ to lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus.


Isolation

Definition: It is separating a person infected with the virus (in this case, the Coronavirus disease) from others to prevent it from spreading.

Sentence: There are specific places where you should isolate a person with the virus.


Curfew

Definition: It is a time when people are restricted to go outside their homes to regulate the movement of people outside.

Sentence: Because of the COVID-19 virus, we must respect certain regulations to keep us safe; one of these is following our curfew.


Quarantine Pass

Definition: It is a permission pass given by the government allowing the holder to visit certain places to do their errands and buy essential goods.

Sentence: When in possession of a Quarantine Pass, you must only visit the certain places when needed and not for pleasure.


Face Mask

Definition: A protective mask covering the nose and the mouth and prevents a person from transmitting the COVID-19 virus.

Sentence: When going outside, we must wear face masks at all times to avoid catching or spreading the Coronavirus.
