Here comes another academic year with the hybrid learning program. We all have that urge at the beginning of each school year where we have the determination to make a change. Even though that so-called “determination” suddenly disappears after a few weeks and we all go back to being lazy, it isn't bad to start with a little optimism. Now, where and how do you study? I remember studying on my bed with all my books and papers scattered all over the sheets. Although, I would end up falling asleep after reading five pages of a book or writing a page worth of notes. You may not realize it, but your study environment does affect your study habits and attitude towards learning.
Do you have the usual desktop and chair set-up with books, papers, pen, and notebook all messed up after your classes? Here are other ways to fix your study space so that your headspace is clear and always prepared for studying!
1. Surround your space with motivational and encouraging reminders.
Sitting down for six to seven hours straight can surprisingly be tiring. Therefore, surrounding yourself with something that will motivate you constantly can give you little doses of energy. Putting pictures of your favorite artists, posters of your favorite shows, or lists of your goals can give you that extra boost you need when studying. Telling yourself encouraging words such as “You did great today,” or “Keep going, you are doing great!” can be written in small notes and posted on your walls.
2. Decorate and make it yours.
You’ll be staying in your study space for the entire academic year, so better make it an environment where you can be comfortable in. Decorating your own chair and table back in school was not possible. However, now that we are at the comfort of our own homes, we have the freedom to add valuables we like. Place small potted-plants on the edge of your table or have a speaker set-up if you listen to music while studying. It is all up to you on how you would like to create a study space that will be effective for your learning.
3. Organizers are life-changing.
One of the biggest distractions when studying is a messy workspace. Open books lying around, scratch papers crumpled everywhere, and dried out pens left open all day long is a typical set-up found in most students’ desks. Many find organizing a heavy chore, making organizers a must. Organizers will help you keep your books on one side of your desk, your pens fixed by color, and your papers arranged by subject. Self-discipline is a necessary skill in order to maintain order, so you better start working on that!
Well, these were some tips for you to create your D.I.Y. classroom. Remember that you are making your own study space, so do everything you like to make it yours. An appropriate and comfortable study space may be the key to great and rewarding grades!
