The Department of Education (DepEd) announced the implementation of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) this academic year 2020-2021 amidst the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
An essential point stated in the BE-LCP is the adoption of various learning delivery options like face-to-face, blended learnings, distance learnings, homeschooling, and other modes that shall be implemented depending on the local COVID-19 Risk Severity Classification and compliance with minimum health standards.
“Our call remains the same: Education must continue whether face-to-face or virtual, with or without physically going to school,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement last May.
The BE-LCP covers the essential requirements of education, like essential learning competencies, multiple learning delivery modalities for teachers, school leaders and learners, required health standards in schools and workplaces, and special activities like Brigada Eskwela, Oplan Balik Eskwela, and partnerships. DepEd has also developed alternative delivery modes of learning.
The department has set the nationwide opening of classes on August 24, yet many parents, teachers, and students still remain anxious and uncertain of the upcoming school year.
