In August, Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte intends to ban extracurricular activities for academic year 2022-2023.
On her visit to Don Pedro Vasquez Memorial School in Jordan, Guimaras, she stated that teachers need to focus on their students' academics to fill learning losses during the two years that students did not have in-person classes.
The DepEd will release a department order stating that only co-curricular and academic activities are allowed in the current school year.
Citizens, including teachers, have expressed disapproval since they said that extracurricular activities are essential to the holistic development of learners.
