The Guidance Center listed several ways on how the Augustinian community can cope with the new normal to safeguard their mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grade 10 Guidance Counselor Rhia G. Marbella enumerated practices like placing a routine to avoid idleness which causes negative thoughts, staying virtually connected while also taking social media detoxes, and taking breaks as needed.

Marbella advised students and teachers to take care of themselves and others by remaining calm and centered through these trying times.

“With all that has happened this year, let’s take time to still celebrate our small wins and moments in life. Those little wins during quarantine may not sound so small after all if we learn to appreciate ourselves and be more grateful with the simple blessings we receive each day, ”

she mentioned.

In addition, Grade 11 Guidance Counselor Adrian Joseph Cernal emphasized the importance of recognizing negative emotions as a natural part and process in life, and encouraged each member of the Augustinian community to be more compassionate towards themselves.

According to the World Health Organization, experiencing negative emotions such as fear, worry, and stress is a normal response to a pandemic because it brings about many major changes in our everyday lives.
