Have you ever wondered how a kinesthetic learner would survive distant learning? Wait, what exactly is a kinesthetic learner anyway? And more importantly, how does one survive distant learning? No worries! In this article, We will discuss four learning styles that you may identify with and helpful tips on how to use your learning style to your advantage in this online setting.
To start, it is important to remember that learning styles and interests may take on many types, and not all individuals can fit neatly into a category. Generally, four learning styles commonly make up most learners, and these are the following: Visual learners, Auditory learners, Kinesthetic learners, and Reading/Writing learners.
Visual learners are partial to seeing and observing images, diagrams, written directions, and more. They learn and understand information more through sight and visual presentation. Auditory learners would rather listen to a lecture than read written notes, and they also use their voices to reinforce fresh thoughts and concepts. Kinesthetic learners learn by doing or experiencing. They like to get involved by acting on events or using their hands to touch and understand concepts. Reading/Writing learners learn better through written words. These types of learners are drawn to expression through writing, reading articles or books, writing in diaries, searching for words in the dictionary, and searching the internet for just about everything.
Now, given the descriptions above, what type of learner are you? Hold on to your learning style! For this next part, you will find out ways on how to maximize that learning style of yours in an online learning environment.
For visual learners, you may realize that you tend to open the handouts, or more accurately, the presentations provided by your teachers. These learning options are extremely useful in catering to your learning style. One may also keep a whiteboard near them because the opportunity to visualize through drawing while studying may stimulate creativity.
For auditory learners, you are most likely to be engaged in synchronous meetings or those who choose to watch the instructional videos in playlists. Initiating group discussions with classmates using online meeting platforms is an effective way to take in and understand information from lessons.
For kinesthetic learners, you might have had the hardest time adjusting to this online learning setting because most schoolwork confines one to answer using their gadgets. However, your opportunity to shine the most may just lie in accomplishing performance tasks, such as vlogs and reaction videos, which would bring out your creative and kinesthetic side to add a whole interesting and fresh way of doing performance tasks!
