September 11, 2001, is a day known for the terrorist attacks that cost nearly 3,000 people their lives. A series of planes were hijacked by militants of the Al-Qaeda extremist group and struck targets in the United States, namely the Pentagon, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the twin towers of the World Trade Center. To this day, countless look back to this event, remembering the lives lost in the incident.
September 11 is also the date 178 legislators are calling for to be named "President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Day" or "Marcos Day" and celebrated in Ilocos Norte as a special non-working holiday. As stated in the bill, lawmakers find that the life of former president Ferdinand Marcos should be commemorated, for he “served as inspiration for young leaders to exemplify his leadership and governance”.
