PH: Asia’s leading beach and dive destination

The Philippines, well-known for its magnificent beaches, colorful dive sites, and beautiful

tourist spots, had a sweeping victory in the World Travel Awards for the year 2020, winning the

categories Asia’s Leading Beach Destination 2020 and Asia’s Leading Dive Destination 2020.

The Philippines has been Asia’s Leading Beach Destination for four nonconsecutive years

(2013, 2016, 2018, and 2020), surpassing India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. It

has also been declared Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the second year in a row. Other

awards the Philippines has received in 2020 include Asia’s Leading Tourism Board: Department of

Tourism, Asia’s Leading Private Island Resort: Amanpulo, Palawan, and Asia’s Leading Tourist

Attraction: Intramuros, Manila.

“On behalf of the Department of Tourism and the people of the Philippines, I’d like to

extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who voted for us in these categories,” said Secretary of Tourism Bernadette Romulo in a recorded video. “And [thank you] to the World Travel Awards for recognizing our outstanding beaches and awarding the breathtaking beauty of our dive sites.”

The World Travel Awards, a brand that “serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate

excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry”, holds an annual

programme renowned for its prestige in the global industry. The winners for each year are chosen

by industry professionals and consumers who vote for the finest travel and tourism sites and

brands in the world.
