On the 5th anniversary of the Hague Ruling, lawmakers want to declare July 12 as the “West Philippine Sea Victory Day”.
The Hague Ruling affirmed Philippine sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea.
House Resolution No.1945 established the declaration that commemorates this triumph.
Both Senator Risa Hontiveros and House Deputy Speaker and Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez are looking forward to its declaration as a sign of pride and victory over China by claiming the West Philippine Sea.
“We must never forget this victory. We must never forget the ways China has exploited our seas, harassed our people, and disrespected our sovereignty,” says Hontiveros.
According to a Filipino fisherman, he has been seeing Chinese vessels more frequently than before and they are continuously growing within the area of the West Philippine Sea.
He also reported other fishermen were sabotaged while fishing on the sea.
