At the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch, passed away peacefully at her Scottish estate at Balmoral on Sept. 8.
She became the queen in 1952 and reigned on the throne for 70 years with over 15 prime
ministers.
King Charles III expressed mourning for his mother’s loss, along with other members of the
royal family.
During his nation address on Sept. 9, he said, “I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
Liz Truss, the new prime minister, expressed that the queen was the rock on which modern Britain was built and who provided stability and strength.
She added that they will offer their loyalty and devotion to the new king.
The senior royals rushed to Balmoral after doctors placed the queen under medical supervision.
Citizens waited for updates on the queen's condition and began to cry as her death was
announced at Buckingham Palace, London.
Prince William and his wife, Catherine, became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and
Cornwall while Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, will become King and Queen Consort
respectively.
